Thank you, Mr Wizards

My 5th edition D&D Player’s Handbook finally failed its third death save and succumbed to the curse of early editions losing their pages. I had heard that this was a common problem and that Wizards of the Coast had a replacement program, but I assumed that shipping to Japan would complicate the replacement. That assumption couldn’t be further from the truth as I received this wonderful response to my request:

Hello Scott,

Thank you for contacting Wizards of the Coast!

I'm sorry to hear that your copy of the has been tampered with by agents of the Storm King. With what you've provided, however, I was successfully able to petition our archivists to help you out with a replacement for your adventuring tome! As such, an order has been placed with them on your behalf to the address you gave us. You should receive your new Player's Handbook in 4 to 6 weeks- maybe even sooner!

Please let us know if you ever have any further questions or concerns. You can reply to this email or you can call us at the phone number in the link below during business hours. We’ll be happy to help as best we can.

Take care and may Gygax guide your rolls!

Sure enough, three weeks later a new Player’s Handbook arrived at my door in pristine condition with a note apologizing for the inconvenience! The replacement alone would have made my day, but the entire process was not only quick, but it made me smile. A big thanks to Luke and the archivists at Wizards of the Coast!

Requesting a Replacement

So how do you get a replacement if your 5th edition books have pages falling out? Take a picture of the damaged and copyright pages and follow the instructions here . If you live overseas and qualify for a replacement, it’s likely that you won’t need to mail in your old book.

  1. lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Unfortunately, the previous tome seems to be spent a last charge then destroyed by rolling 1 as if a magic wand retrieved from an archmage of madness in a ruined Mage’s tower. However, it is nice job to receive the great handout making us laugh. I hope the new one is blessed by protection of Helm.
