Rulebook App Released
The CCfolia Rulebook App released with access to a fair number of books! It costs ¥550 a month, but there’s a coupon code “start_trpg” that makes the first month free. I’ll write more about it after I’ve had a chance to check it out.
Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne TRPG
The Japanese edition of the Nocturne TRPG was recently released, and it includes the supplement Amala Abyss. A PDF version is available on DriveThruRPG, as well as the English translation by Lion Wing. Nocturne was my entry into the world of Shin Megami Tensei, so I was really happy to get my hands on this.RPG All Catalog ’95
To my pleasant surprise, Hobby Japan now sells a PDF of the RPG All Catalog ’95! I own a physical copy already, and it’s great fun to flip through. Entries range from a half page to multiple pages, but tend towards a single page. Each game gets an overview of the system and setting, and is rated for playability, series completeness, and availability. Supplement info is also called out, and it covers both domestic and foreign games. Highly recommended if you’re a fan of TRPG history.
Does Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne TRPG allow you to create and mold your own small demon army, like in the game?
I haven’t read the entire book, so may be missing something, but as far as I understand, no, not in the sense of having a small army of them active with you. You can negotiate with demons, and if you succeed, get their demon card (悪魔カード) that allows you to do a few things with them. One, is manifest (顕現), where they essentially transfer onto your character and you becoming that demon, replacing level, attributes, and inheriting skills. The demon card is lost when this is done. The other usages are fusions, registration, and similar management tasks. This is all done at the Cathedral of Shadows, so you’re not able to manifest on demand.
I guess just I have to hack another rpg myself to play the real SMT ttrpg…
